Vivid is the brainchild of Josh Cates. The word vivid is described as producing strong feelings with clear images in the mind. Vivid is a culmination of everything in Josh’s life. Everyone he has met, all of his fellow musicians that he has played with and all of the people that supported him. The goal of vivid is to put words to ideas and sounds to feelings in whatever form, style or genre that may ask for. Josh grew up in O’Fallon, Missouri. Often spending time on the banks of the Missouri River. He recalls being able to hear blues bands on the Illinois side of the river, late in the evening, listening and dreaming of a day when he could also stand on a stage and perform. His passion for music began when he found his father’s old guitar stowed away under the bed. He was a reserved child spending many of his days learning new songs by ear and playing whatever came naturally to him on guitar and singing along. Then, in High School he started playing and writing music with his friends Chayse and Alex Henke. They went on to form “Lo and Behold” which is still writing and recording music today. Josh picked up the trumpet in junior high playing in the marching band and large ensembles and he stuck with it all the way to college, where he studied Jazz at Missouri state university. There he honed his crafts and connected with other musicians playing in small Jazz combos and large big band ensembles. After college he received an offer to perform on a cruise ship as an assistant cruise director.
The Ship was called the Victory and it sailed the great lake region from Toronto, Canada all the way to Chicago, Illinois. During this six month stint is where Josh worked on repertoire across all different types of musical genres. He played Motown music from Detroit, Old country stylings of legends like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, and many songs by his rock and roll icons that are forever immortalized in the rock and roll hall of fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Josh has recently released his first single under the Vivid name called “Lean”
If you’ve spent any amount of time in the Milwaukee metal scene, the name Armon Hassan is bound to ring some bells. From cutting his teeth as a harsh vocalist in the metalcore outfit Abide by Me, to packing venues with After Hour Animals, to experimenting outside the boundaries and blurring the lines of heavy music in Monorail Central, Hassan as proven time and time again that his ever-growing vocals become the vanguard of his passion projects.
Once again, Hassan has returned to playing music with a new twist on his indistinguishable vocals – this time with a solo project. Performing under the name Armon Hassan., his debut single “Right Now” shows Hassan at his most vulnerable yet – on display are the clean vocals that Hassan began honing with Monorail Central, and his lyrics paint the picture of a man facing his inner demons. “Right Now” draws upon the self-deprecating emo-rap of artists like Lil Peep and gives Hassan the opportunity to really showcase who he is as an artist – no longer shackled by the boundaries of his past heavy projects, yet still fully capable of projecting the raw emotion that fans of his music have come to expect.
Now signed to N43 Records alongside iconic Milwaukee artists Lex Allen and Corey Pieper, Hassan has only just begun to show Milwaukee what he’s capable of.
Imbibed with a distinctly Midwestern warmth, Valerie Lighthart is a chirpy folk-pop songstress that tempers bright melodies with a sense of something a few shades darker -punctuations of melancholy and private moments of intimate vulnerability.
She hails from the rolling hills, bright pastures, roving rivers, and thick forests of the country outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her love of music is carried from an early age, so ardent that she would put on weekly performances for her entire first grade class. Discovering hints of folk music at a young age while simultaneously enjoying classic 50’s and 60’s pop, she now weaves a unique balance between the two contrasting sounds. After developing a deep and rich interest in classical poetry as a teenager, she combines pop elements and gentle storytelling. This culminates in something all at once youthful and timeless.
After building up a portfolio of acoustic songs, she began working with electronic duo Immortal Girlfriend after starring in their music video for the song “Daybreak.” Here, she began to develop technical knowledge and experiment with new sounds. This meeting between folk and electronica developed “I’ll Be Damned,” a song which quickly picked up traction with attention from Milwaukee Record and radio play from 88.9 Radio Milwaukee. The circulation of “I’ll Be Damned” brought the attention of N43 Records, a local independent label attached to Attention Era, an esteemed production company. Here she collaborated with producers Timothy Wolf and Steven Pitzl, and “Mean To Me” was born, a pop celebration of the raw parts of heartbreak. November 30th, 2018, Valerie in collaboration with N43 released her debut EP ‘V.A.L.,’ a lighthearted romp and simultaneous celebration and defamation of love and transformation.
Producer and songwriter, Casey Serna, started his music career playing guitar in LA- area pop/rock bands, where he shared the stage with major acts such Coheed and Cambria and Sean Kingston. Serna has since departed from rock, his music now blends electronic instrumentation with piano and guitars into uplifting pop and future-bass tracks. Frequently hinting at his roots as a guitarist, his debut single, Heartsick, with Antics and Shuba is scheduled to release with N43 records on December 4, 2020.
Milwaukee raised musician based out of Austin, TX. Creating music that manifests itself in many genres. Raised on and paying homage to his favorite artists like John Mayer, The Killers, Foster the People, The Strokes, and Two Door Cinema Club.
Milwaukee artist Clear Pioneer are set to release their upcoming single “What I Already Am” on October 26th, 2018. After winning several talent showcases in 2018 (Rock The Desert, Lifest, Chocolatefest) the upcoming single sets a new tone for the future.
Mastered by Timothy Wolf of Four Giants Studio (N43 records), “What I Already Am” plays on the theme of 1980’s synthwave with a modern pop twist. The driving rhythm section, paired with haunting synths, paint a soothing backdrop for a familiar and tumultuous narrative.
After performing with nationally acclaimed artists Judah and the Lion, Jesse McCartney and NeverShoutNever, Clear Pioneer has recently claimed their place in Milwaukee. In 2018 alone, they have packed notable venues, The Miramar Theater (direct support for newvices) and The Rave (direct support for The Horrors).
The video for “What I Already Am,” filmed and directed by Julian Valentine, welcomes fans to the band’s refreshingly dark alternative universe; hypnotic lighting and colors draw the viewer in to this new, mysterious world.
Aside from the music video, the “What I Already Am” release will feature remixes by national EDM duo Antics (direct support for Martin Garrix and Dillon Francis), Milwaukee’s own Dashcam (Nice FM Records), and Nashville producer Pr.kr.
Artwork for both the single and remixes was created by 3D Artist and Motion Designer, Duarte Eiros (Madrid, Spain).
